Podcast Ep. 76: Impact of Perfectionism on Friendships

Perfectionism leads to limited connection and vulnerability in friendships, often an imbalance of pouring into others and then feeling underappreciated or drained.

And the people pleaser in the perfectionist patterns avoids conflict and has many ambiguous friendships which keep you stuck trying to make sure you are likeable rather than being the truest you.

What would happen if you got clear on what you want a friendship to provide you?

What kind of connections could you develop if you just had the conversation about intentions?

Podcast Ep. 75: Time Management isn't Working

You've tried all the hacks, all the strategies and the systems and still you feel defeated, constantly behind, exhausted and unsatisfied with what you've gotten done at the end of the day. I get it - I lived that life for almost 20 years.

Here's the thing, those systems were not designed for people like us. They were created by old white dudes who weren't responsible for the emotional well-being of their family and communities. Those systems weren't created with the flexibility we need for how real life happens - moments, hours and sometimes days or weeks hijacked by taking care of people - which we love but also takes time.

So no more controlling time - Time Integrity is a whole mood and today's episode is just the beginning.

NEW! You've heard us mention the course we are launching in March to pass along the tools and the systems we developed as we moved out of the Burnt Out Perfectionist life into the Confident Connected Rebel lifestyle. Enrollment will be opening soon but snag your spot on the waitlist to be the first notified when we open up the limited number of seats for our Beta run of this course at a ridiculously low investment this one time.

Podcast Ep. 74: Why are Boundaries so Hard?

In this episode we talk about a few of the challenges that you face when first implementing boundaries in your relationships and with yourself.

Sure, boundaries are hard, but why? Is it the fear of hurt feelings, possible rejection, change?  Maybe it's that you feel like you don't have a good track record following through with things, so why bother?

Whatever the reason, we're here for ya. Thanks for listening.

Podcast Ep. 73: #1 Question to Ask Yourself Every Day

We have been taught to look outside of ourselves to determine what we do, how we love, where we give our attention and energy. So after decades of that conditioning, it's time to go back inside yourself.

This short episode is packed with some powerful questions. One specific question that will provide direction and clarity in how to have a joy-filled and meaningful impact.

Podcast Ep. 72: How do you find your Purpose?

What is the meaning of life? What makes life worth living? These are questions philosophers, and scientists, have been working on for thousands of years. The answer continues to be having a sense of purpose - delivering a meaningful impact on the world at large. And yet, so many of us hold ourselves back from doing the things we are passionate about. Where do these fears of ridicule, imperfection and inadequacy come from? Why does it feel so hard to figure out what your purpose is?

In this episode, we talk about what's stopping you and what to do to move into a meaningful life filled with purpose and joy.

Podcast Ep. 71: People Pleasing isn't what you think it looks like

People Pleasing: What is it, what does it look like, and how does it affect your life and relationships? Do you even know if you’re doing it?

In this episode we share our respective journeys through people pleasing and how identifying it changed our relationship with each other, our parenting and ourselves. People pleasing has multiple layers and offers a chance to be the hero in a lot of stories.

But what if by releasing the identity of “hero”, you could find deeper connection in your relationships, encourage resiliency and confidence in the people you love, all while becoming that person you know deep down that you truly are?

Podcast Ep. 70: Healing the Impact of Procrastination in your Relationships

We have been told that people who procrastinate are lazy, unmotivated, non-committal and a slew of other offensive and damaging things. But what if we approached procrastination from a completely different angle? What if the people we love could move out of procrastination - we could move out of the pattern of false starts and piles of incomplete projects - by asking a question rather than blaming and assuming?

The impact of the habit of procrastination is huge, especially over the span of a lifetime or a relationship. In this episode, you'll hear some alternatives in parenting, partnership, friendships and professional relationships so you can reconnect and work together on overcoming the ever present fears.

Podcast Ep. 68: Are You Being Selfish?

In order to have the meaningful impact you are designed to have, you have to pursue the nudges that come up to explore an idea or make changes in your life. But for so many, doing this in the past has led to someone labeling you selfish or you feeling guilty because someone you love or care about is not immediately on board with the shifts you made.

You aren't selfish for going after what lights you up. You are selfish if you don't. Listen to this episode to dig in a little deeper about how crucial it is that you do the things calling to you.

Podcast Ep. 61: 5 Reasons Vision Boards Don't Work

After doing vision boards for over 17 years, I've learned what works and what doesn't. Vision boards have varying degrees of effectiveness but only when you apply the watered down version of the Law of Attraction to it and completely disregard how the human mind works. I certainly had years when I was disappointed in the lack of reality from the vision board I created and I have had years, like this one, where I can see the reality of those dreams and goals actualize regularly.

In this episode, I share the 5 most common reasons that vision boards haven't worked - the last one is a "Wow!" moment.

Podcast Ep. 52: Moving Forward - Foster Care to Prison Pipeline

Growing up in the Foster Care system and then the prison system, Scott Hampton has a true understanding of how and where these institutions fail to teach and emotionally care for the youth of this country. It was in prison that Scott began to understand how the lack of acknowledgment of a person’s experience in the Foster Care system could truly impact them and hold them back from the growth and acceptance that they deserve.

It was from this realization that Scott began to do his own research on the “Foster Care to Prison Pipeline” and began to develop a mentorship program to help those who, like him, did not receive the empathy and support needed to live a full and happy life.

In this episode we discussed:

  • Feedback
  • Judgement
  • Acceptance
  • Perseverance

Podcast Ep. 50: Follow Your Curiosity

Jowarnise is a visual artist and designer who explores the human condition with themes involving race, social class, and culture through her naturalistic portraits of women in eloquent poses. Her work has been exhibited at the Black History Museum and Cultural Center of Virginia, the Meredith Gallery at Virginia State University, the medical campus of Virginia Commonwealth University, and the Virginia Museum of History and Culture. Boldly Becoming You is a podcast now!

Aaaaahhhh! I'm so nervous and excited and fighting the urge to tell everyone that I am very aware of my amateur, just getting started, beginner's status.

Isn't it funny we do that? When I am doing something new and there is an audience of any kind, whether it's my husband or kids or the social media audience, I find myself nonchalantly apologizing for not being an expert. It's that old perfectionism stuff that comes up - the "I am only valuable and loved when I am doing things perfectly."

So I'm resisting this to some degree, at least to the level I would have. The 5 years ago me, hell, the 8 months ago me, would have overexplained the recording quality, the graphics, the sound of my voice and probably a dozen other things I shouldn't be embarrassed about because I freaking took on a new, big, kinda scary thing. I'm not a pro...yet.

I wasn't an expert 20 years ago on relationships, on self-awareness, on human behavior...on myself. But I kept showing up and pushed forward to create momentum for myself and I hope you will listen and subscribe to the Boldly Becoming You Podcast so you can also.

So many great episodes coming up about emotions, the partnership relationship, and stories of other incredible people uncovering their path to purpose in their lives.

Mondays - short bite-sized episodes to create your weekly self-awareness and Boldly Becoming You filter

Thursdays - Extraordinary stories of purpose-filled people who have found the road back to themselves.
